Ironman Florida 2008 - 353 days to go

Some of you will already know that I have decided to compete in Ironman Florida 2008. For those who don't know (which won't be many I've spoken to in the last couple of years) an Ironman is a triathlon and consists of the following:
2.4 mile swim
112 mile cycle
26.2 mile run

I completed my first Ironman, in August 2006, in the UK in a time of 13 hours 52 minutes.

Ironman Florida will be my second attempt at the Ironman distance.

Many of my friends sponsored me when I completed IMUK and I managed to raise £1,177.82 in aid of Leukaemia Care.

In order to inspire more of you to sponsor me this time I have decided to set myself an even more ambitious target.

My targets are as follows:

  • Compete in Edinburgh Marathon in May 2008 and complete the race in under 4 hours (my previous best time at marathon is over 4 and 40 minutes)

  • Compete in Aberfeldy Half Ironman in August 2008 and complete the race in under 6 hours (I have never raced at this distance)

  • Compete in Ironman Florida in November 2008 and complete the race in under 12 hours (improving by almost 2 hours on my previous time)

  • In addition to all of the above I am pledging to reduce my body weight by 36 lbs by the time I am on the start line in Florida

Although my targets are ambitious I am confident I can achieve them with the right training and the additional motivation of knowing that I am raising money for a good cause as part of it. I have yet to nominate my chosen charity but plan to do this in the coming weeks. I will be using Just Giving again and will publish the details here as soon as I have them.
